Great coffee, no coffee grounds

★★★★ Used while hiking, tent camping and car camping

I don't think anything's worse than instant coffee while camping. I used to make filter coffee with compact gear, which was great too, but then you're always stuck with the coffee grounds and the cleanup. With this espresso maker I still get great coffee, but with the ease of pods you can just pack out in a small trash bag. Can't get pods on a longer trip? Then just use ground coffee!

One small downside: you can only brew 3 to 4 cups on one charge with 80ml of water, or 4 to 5 with 50ml. The exact number also depends on the water temperature.

I heat a bit of extra hot water myself on a gas burner or kettle, even for multiple people, which makes the battery last a lot longer. I'm an espresso person myself, but if you'd rather have a regular (bigger) cup of coffee, just add extra water to the mug for an americano, or run another round of water through the same pod!

Good to know

Heating the water yourself takes this machine about eight minutes — espresso at the campsite is about slowing down. In a hurry? Pour hot water from your kettle in and press and hold a bit: your cup's ready within a minute. And 80 ml per brew means real espresso, not a mug of filter coffee.
